If your visa expires on 14th March then so does your status and the terms of the visa require you to leave the US when your status expires.
The validity period of your visa has nothing to do with how long you can stay. If you were admitted as a J-1, you were given an I-94 which was endorsed J-1 D/S. The D/S means duration of status.
It means that as long as you are maintaining your status as a J-1, i.e., participating in the program as it’s designed, you’re in status. Take a look at your DSP-2019 (the pink form). On it there is a start date and an end date for your program.
J-1’s are allowed 30 days to depart the U.S. starting from the end date of your program. If your program ended on January 1, 2009, you would have until Jan 31, 2009, to prepare for your departure. The validity period of your visa is not related to how long you can stay.
You can leave anytime you want.
